Teknopilot has since 2013 worked on an ongoing transmedia project aimed at creating empathy and change for othered and ostracised children – Children Born of War (CBOW).
The project started in 2013 with the production of a documentary film about the Norwegian Lebensborn children – the children of German soldiers and occupied women during World War II. As so many children of enemy soldiers, many of the Lebensborn were bullied and abused for carrying the enemy’s genes.
As of 2025, the transmedia project has resulted in:
- The documentary film «Wars Don’t End» (Main producer Gammaglimt AS, co-producer Teknopilot AS)
- The mobile game «My Child Lebensborn (Main producer Teknopilot AS, co-producer Sarepta Studio AS)
- The educational tool for schools, «My Child New Beginnings» (Producer Teknopilot AS)
- The foundation «The Children Born of War Project«) (Founded by Teknopilot AS, in collaboration with prof. dr. Ingvill C. Ødegaard)
A case study describing the impact of the project is currently being produced.
The creation of the game has resulted in the IP «My Child», which is now developed further with a second game, called «My Child New Beginnings». This game does not discuss the situation of CBOW, but the related topic of how to deal with childhood trauma due to othering and bullying.
The transmedia project was also the motivation for the doctoral work of producer Elin Festøy, exploring emotionally charged digital storytelling with the central CBOW challenge «how can an adult look at a child and see an enemy?» The result is a digital, interactive exposition that can be studied here.
