«- Lean on me»
«My Child» is the name of the simulation concept and storyworld that was developed as part of the creation of the mobile game «My Child Lebensborn». The second game based on the IP is currently being developed by Sarepta Studio AS, in co-operation with Teknopilot AS.
The «My Child» IP is characterised by a focus on emotionally charged storytelling to motivate reflection and change and the Meliorist belief that feeling empathy for – and understanding – the situation of others does lead to more humanistic behaviour.
The «My Child» games are placing the player in the role of a parent, interacting with a simulated child on the screen. The child reacts with body language and dialogue to the actions of the parent/player, giving player feedback in a more natural way than the dashboards or health bars typical for computer games. The player has to give the child attention to understand their situation. The gameplay is inspired by Tamagochi-like games where caring and nurturing are core activities. At the same time, the «My Child» games introduce dialogue and story events that serve as interaction opportunities for the parent/player to learn and observe how the child is doing and trying to help.
In addition to the care-centered gameplay, the «My Child» IP is also centered on creating productions and products that aim to help people – to make the world better. The first game, «My Child Lebensborn», presents the historic facts of the fate of Norwegian Lebensborn children born during World War II. The player/parent experiences the lack of agency of a single parent of a Lebensborn child in post-war Norway in a 6h linear story.
The game «My Child New Beginnings» focuses on the effects of childhood trauma on a ten year old child who has experienced similar trauma as presented in the first game. The player/parent is challenged to understand the child’s trauma and coping mechanisms and also to learn how to help. The game is to teach mental health literacy and best practice trauma treatment.
